What does it work?
Dumbbell step up target muscle – Legs – Quadriceps
How To Do It
Starting position: Stand up straight while holding a dumbbell in each hand (palms facing the side of your legs).
Place the right foot on the platform. Step up until leg is fully extended. Use the heel mainly to lift the rest of your body up and place the foot of the left leg on the platform as well.
Return to the original standing position.
Repeat with the right leg for the recommended amount of repetitions.
Step down in a steady movement and do not jump. Jumping down will put unnecessary forces and pressures on the knee and risk injury. This will also engage the muscle better and you will get more benefit from it. Be sure to control your breathing on the way down and breath out.Repeat for the recommended amount of repetitions.
Repeat for the recommended amount of repetitions.
This exercise can also be performed by alternating between the right and the left leg with walking lunges. A good hill climb outdoors will also get you working the quads in the same movement pattern. This will also give you a good reason to get out and get some fresh air. If it is a sunny day you will also benefit from the extra vitamin D.
